The socialite was arrested with her friend, former Playboy Playmate Jennifer Rovero, for allegedly carrying a joint outside Port Elizabeth's Nelson Mandela stadium during the Netherlands-Brazil quarterfinal World Cup clash on Friday.
The charge of being in possession of dagga against Hilton was dropped after Rovero, who works for her as a photographer, pleaded guilty and was fined R1000.
Yesterday, Hilton, 29, wrote on Twitter: "It was absolutely ridiculous, what I was put through for nothing. But I'm used to being a scapegoat".
She also posted an article in her defence written by an international entertainment news agency for her 2.1million followers on Twitter.
The article, titled "Paris deserves more than an apology for that false World Cup pot bust," said Hilton was "at least as smart a businessman as Donald Trump and George Steinbrenner" and that her drug bust was "hard to believe from the beginning".
"It's not hard to fathom Paris smoking pot, it's the doing it in the midst of the world's biggest sporting event, in public, blatantly enough to get caught, part that made it dubious. Again, Paris is not dumb," the article said.
"It doesn't matter if you think that Rovero is covering for her boss or not (dubious). Can you imagine if a Trump or Steinbrenner were put in the same situation? They'd be banging their fists on a podium at a press conference, demanding that someone pay. "Paris? She sweetly tweets, 'Hey guys, there is a lot of crazy rumours going around. Just want you all to know the truth. Everything is completely fine. I was not charged or arrested, 'cause I didn't do anything'."
After her charges were dropped on Friday, Hilton wrote on Twitter: "Everyone was super nice and friendly to me. I love South Africa! Such an amazing place, especially during the World Cup! Hope that clears everything up. Love you guys, thanks for your concern. Xoxo P." Hilton's previous brushes with the law, in the US, have been for driving under the influence of alcohol and illegally.
At the weekend, police spokesman Brigadier Sally de Beer said that when officers approached Hilton and Rovero after smelling dagga, a "cannabis cigarette" suspiciously dropped to the floor. Despite Hilton telling her followers on Twitter that she had not been arrested, De Beer said that was not the case. "She was arrested and then the charges were formally withdrawn in court.
